About ProbablyMonsters' Battle Barge Team

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a Technical Gameplay Designer for our Action-RPG. They will be responsible for bringing AI Characters to life by crafting abilities and behaviors that enhance our dynamic combat and encourage player build exploration. You'll collaborate across multiple disciplines on multiple areas of combat, including designing and implementing new AI abilities, arranging enemy groupings, and tuning enemy numbers and spawns that add variety and encourage replay. You'll playtest regularly to ensure the pacing and flow of combat feels great and validate your findings with community feedback.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • You love playing games with fast paced, action oriented, combat.
  • You have had your hands on the levers and knobs needed to fine tune the rhythm and timing of larger combat situations.
  • You enjoy games with build choices that give players a multitude of ways to approach combat
  • You aren't afraid to delve into complex technical challenges or take on tricky implementations
  • You understand that great combat feel comes from playtesting and iteration
  • You evaluate your designs from the perspective of multiple different play styles
  • You know that the best designs are collaborative and actively seek out the input and feedback of others
  • You are comfortable setting your own goals and objectives and working towards them
  • WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Playtest regularly with an eye towards ensuring our combat has great rhythm
  • Identify opportunities for new enemy types or abilities that enhance the existing combat
  • Design and implement new abilities for enemy combatants
  • Create enemy spawn groups that provide exciting challenges and are fun to fight
  • Work with artists and engineers to develop new enemies, abilities, effects and implement them in the game
  • Expand existing ability systems to provide new options and functionality
  • Help systems design and engineering iterate on the overall architecture for enemy spawning, placement and grouping
  • Guide the team towards the best possible 3rd person combat experiences derived from our loot game by being a combat expert and strong player advocate
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience designing and implementing AI Characters or Abilities for a game with action-oriented combat
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience in a technical, AI, or Combat design role
  • Familiarity with at least one scripting or programming language
  • PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with C++
  • Experience working on third person action games

    Compensation:

  • This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt (salaried) position.
  • The full salary range for this position is $95,000 - $137,800 per year. The upper third of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. When an offer is made, many factors are considered, such as your unique experience and skills, where you live, where the work will be performed, what similar jobs pay, internal equity, and what you're looking for.
  • In addition to base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for additional incentives, such as a sign-on bonus and short- and long-term incentives. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
